Music changes

I have decided I am not going to use the Miles Davis song whilst Nancy is narrating. I have placed her narration over some long shots of different parts of town which connotes Nancy has walked there to meet Johnny's partner. For the opening credits I have the chase soundtrack from the game 'L.A Noire' which will continue to play until Johnny is shot and killed. There will be no music when Nancy and the detective are talking in the detectives office.

Health & Safety considerations

When I was making my short film I had to be aware of the health and safety hazards which could occur. I had to make sure that there wasn't anything which could cause any risk of injury or harm. I had to make sure that when I was filming all my actors were safe by telling them what could cause an accident so they were aware. For example when I arrived at the location where I filmed the detective scenes the room had previously had work done to it so there was a lot of dangerous equipment left on the floor. To resolve this I made sure all the equipment was put away and we cleaned the floor incase there was any glass or nails.
Here is an example of risk assessment for a camera platform: Production wants to use a tower scaffold as a camera platform. The producer delegates the task of conducting the production risk assessment to the production manager.

Hazard - Falling objects and equipment
Who is at risk? - People at ground level
Controls - Toeboards fitted
Severity of injury - Serious
Control measures - All equipment secured to scaffold and no loose items.

When I was filming the scenes in Old Town I made sure that the area was safe as we were filming on a road. There was also a building site so we had to film further down the road.

Opening credits

Here are two opening credits for the films 'Crime Wave' and 'Raw Deal'. The Crime Wave opening has the credits appearing while the film is playing. It uses fades when it changes credits. I like the fades and font used however I don't like the fact the credits and film are playing at the same time because I think the audience will be distracted by the film and not take notice of the credits. Raw Deal's credits are on a plain black background with the credits fading. I prefer this as it is plain and the audience will take notice of the credits. I will use this layout and include the fades however I will use a different font and music in the background.

Filming - 22/03/12

I had to film another scene for my film as during the editing process I realised there were a few gaps that needed filling as I didn't realise I would have to cut a lot of my other footage down. I filmed some different streets in Old Town so I can edit so the Nancy's narration is on top so it looks like she has walked through those streets to meet Johnny's partner.

Cast and location problems

I have had many problems with my cast as some have become unavailable during the course of filming. Will Meredith was originally going to play the detective however we have had scheduling problems due to his job. I have replaced him with Mike who was originally going to play a gang member.  I was going to film in my friends office for the detectives office as the mise en scene was suitable for my film as she had a large desk, blinded windows and enough space for the cast. I wasn't able to use this so I changed to the upstairs of one of my takeaways as there is a flat above and one of the rooms had the mise en scene that I needed.

Updated script

1.        EXT. Dark street

Murderer is following JOHNNY discreetly down the street without him knowing. The murderer puts some leather gloves on to indicate he is going to kill JOHNNY. JOHNNY becomes visible and as the murderer becomes closer he pulls out a gun and shoots JOHNNY.

JOHNNY

(Groans)

JOHNNY begins staggering but collapses to the floor where he pulls out a gun. The murderer shoots him again this time killing him. The murderer walks off.

2.        INT. Detectives office

Fade into smoke from NANCY’s cigarette. NANCY is sat smoking. The smoke fades when NANCY begins to speak.

NANCY

There’s only one reason why I’m here and that’s to find JOHNNY’s killer

DETECTIVE stands up and looks directly at NANCY

DETECTIVE

Well that’s what I’m here for, but are you willing to do something for me

NANCY

I’ll do what’s needed…

DETECTIVE looks serious.

DETECTIVE

Even if it means taking down the gang?

NANCY

I said whatever you need, I don’t give a damn what happens to them anymore

NANCY and the DETECTIVE go silent for a second.

DETECTIVE

Well you gotta remember you’ll be working for me now

NANCY looks at the DETECTIVE in an unsure manner

NANCY

Ok what do I need to do?

DETECTIVE

Good. Well what I need from you, is to get the gang to trust you with anything. They already know you were with JOHNNY and being their leader there’s no doubt they’re trying to look for the killer. Use that as an excuse to get close cos they won’t question you wanting to be involved with helping them. Tell them you have some suspicions that it was gang leader RON LEMANSKY.

NANCY lights another cigarette.

NANCY

RON LEMANSKY? They’ll kill him just on suspicion.

DETECTIVE

Don’t worry we’ve got it all planned. We need them to believe it was him so you can have time to get to know the gang.

NANCY

Ok fine I guess you know what you are doing, I’ll go meet up with JOHNNYS partner.

NANCY and the DETECTIVE shake hands and NANCY walks out.

3.        EXT. Street

NANCY walks to meet JOHNNY’s partner. They begin talking. NANCY begins narrating.

NANCY

I was so confused; I didn’t know who to trust anymore. I did what the DETECTIVE said, I drew suspicions onto RON LEMANSKY. I was being taken to the gangs club so I knew I had to stay calm when I saw them all.

 

I have changed the ending of the script, as originally I wanted Johnny's gang members in be in the short sequence however I thought I could establish my aim better if we didn't know how the gang reacted to Nancy showing up.
